One of the best ways to create great sales copy is to jump on the phone
with your prospective clients.
Why?
Because they’ll tell you what’s holding you back from buying.
And if one person is thinking it, there’s a darn good chance others are
also thinking the same thing…
So you take the concerns of that client, take your answers – and
incorporate it into your sales copy.
Makes sense.
Of course it does, because the #1 key to writing great sales copy is
UNDERSTANDING YOUR CUSTOMER.
With this in mind, let me tell you about a conversation I had yesterday
with a prospect who was interested in my More Customers on a Shoestring
program, but wasn’t quite over the line. Let’s call him David…
Me: So what’s holding you back?
David: I’m into computers. And if you asked me to spend 40 hours on
computers, I’d say no problem. But I’m concerned this “marketing stuff”
will be too complex and over my head.
Me: Fair enough. But you want more customers, right?
David: Yes.
Me: And if you don’t master the marketing stuff, it’s going to be tough to
get more customers and make more money and enjoy a better lifestyle
via your business… right?
David: Yes, that’s true.
Me: Now let me ask you a question… you know computers like the back of your
hand, don’t you?
David: Yes.
Me: So how would I best learn how to fix a computer? By buying a book
called “How to fix computers” or by getting coached by you for one hour a
week… getting homework assignments… doing those assignments and
having the opportunity to ask you questions both via the coaching calls and
via email support?
David: I’d be able to teach you better than a book would, of course.
Me: It’s the same with learning how to create a system that attracts
customers. You need the templates, the samples, the guidance,
the advice – a book or marketing program in a box won’t give you that.
David: Yes, that makes sense. But I’ve got limited funds and want to know
where I’m best off spending my $1000.
Me: Tell me, if you place an advertisement in the newspaper, send out some
direct mail, drop some money on Google Adwords, etc… will they charge you
exactly the same amount whether that ad works or doesn’t work?
David: Of course they will.
Me: So you’ll pay the same amount for a $500 or $1000 ad whether it makes
you nothing… or it makes you $5,000?
David: Yes:
Me: And what makes the difference between how much it makes?
David: I guess it’s the overall strategy and what goes in the ad.
Me: And tell me, when you advertise in a newspaper, etc. do they make a
concerted effort to help make sure the ad works for you?
David: Not really, they just take the money and leave it with you.
Me: Exactly. So you’ve got to take control of your advertising and
marketing dollars, otherwise you’re like a sitting duck – and there are
“heaps” of piranhas sitting around ready to gobble it up.
David: Yes, that’s true. I can relate to that. $1,000.00 is nothing. You
can lose it in a heartbeat by not knowing what you’re doing. That’s why
I’ve been sitting on the fence thinking about buying.

And finally – how much longer are you willing to delay taking action?
