When is the best time to quit?

Below is an email from Scott Bywater, as I often do I repost his emails that I like and think others who read my blog also might like.

As it was in Rudd's term, he informed his potential voters he had no intention of quitting IF he lost the election. At least he and Gillard were consistent liars.

If you check out today’s newspaper, you’ll see our friend Kevin Rudd (made famous by the most victorious loss speech ever) has resigned from Federal Parliament.

Is this good news… bad news?

Depends on who you ask.

Should he have quit?

Who am I to judge that.


I will say this.

Knowing when to quit is a very good skill to have.

What do I mean by that?

Well, it’s simple.

The #1 in any area… whether it be sports, business or medical specialists gets rewarded a heck of a lot more than #2 & #3.

So as a business owner, your aim should be to become #1 at what you do.

But the thing is, if you spread yourself too thin in too many areas, it’s tough to become #1.

And that’s why you need to learn how to quit the things you’re not good at in order to invest your energy into the things you are good at.

Make sense?

Same goes with your products and services.

Sometimes you’ve got to drop some of them, and move your attention to the others...

That’s what Steve Jobs did when he walked into Apple and it was about 5 weeks from Bankruptcy.

He quit dozens of products.

Focused his attention on a few core ones.

And turned the company around.

What can you quit today?

Maybe checking your email like an ADD addict…

Web surfing which causes you to lose concentration & focus…

Perhaps an unproductive client…

Maybe a whole area of your business which is stopping you from focusing on the profitable side…

Something to think about.

My advice:

Quit the stuff which takes your focus away from marketing and innovating.

And start investing more time in getting more customers.
